HOT STONE MASSAGE THERAPY
Hot stone massage is a natural therapy in which warmed stones are positioned on parts of the client's body to maximize the therapeutic benefit. It is a specialty massage where the practitioner uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm tight muscles so the practitioner can work more deeply. Hot stone massage therapy is beneficial on both physical and psychological levels.
Some possible benefits of Hot Stone Massage Therapy
- Relaxation - Heated stones may be beneficial in releasing tension and easing sore muscles.
- Pain Relief - Hot stone massage may leave the client feeling physically better than a massage that does not incorporate heat.
- Improved Circulation - As the heat from the stones penetrates into the deeper body tissues, blood vessels open, resulting in improved circulation, which can help ease aches and pains.
- Mental Benefits - Relaxation through a hot stone massage helps ease mental stress and tension. A hot stone massage may also help combat some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders and depression.
What to expect
Before the session, the stones are sanitized and heated in bath of 120 to 150 degree water. To start, the client lays face down, with the practitioner working on the back. The practitioner warms up the body with traditional Swedish massage and then places heated stones in specific points on the body to improve the flow of energy. Then, while holding a heated stone, the practitioner massages specific areas of the body.
